Asian Eyelid /Double Eyelid( Blepharoplasty)

Upper lid blepharoplasty/double eyelid surgery is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure in East Asia (Korea, Japan, and China).
Asian blepharoplasty, also known as “double-eyelid surgery, involves the surgical creation of a supratarsal crease. This supratarsal crease is the fold in double eyelid surgery. However, because the creation of a supratarsal crease does not actually involve the formation of another eyelid, the term double eyelid is actually a misnomer.

The goal of double eyelid surgery for Asians is fresh, youthful, and attractive eyes that retain their ethnic appearance.

How Is Double Eyelid Surgery Performed?

After a complete medical and eye examination, discussion on the level of the crease height, whether a nasally tapered, or parallel crease is wanted, Dr Young will define exactly what’s required for an optimum outcome. Complications or unwanted results will be clarified and then a booking and follow up details will be given. A post care information pack and post care eye drops will be prescribed.
Most of our patients have double eyelid surgery performed on an outpatient basis (same day surgery) where you return home after the procedure. This allows us to provide the best medical care in terms of electronic monitoring, equipment and anaesthetics. It is done under local anaesthetic and will take approximately 2 hours.

What Happens During the Procedure?

The procedure is very delicate like other plastic surgery. It involves removing a small amount of excessive skin (depending on the age of the patient, more may be removed), some tissue under the skin, and possibly a small amount of fat pads. The technical demands and details are in the design of the double eyelid crease, and the technical skills required to heal the incision wound together in a permanent fashion. The incision line is hidden in the newly created eyelid crease. Associated procedures such as epicanthoplasty, fat pad/bags removal, or brow lifting, may be also performed conveniently at the same procedure.

Expected Results

Initially, the crease will look slightly higher than expected but then, over a few months period, it will achieve an ideal level and shape. Any detailed questions you may have regarding the immediate post-surgical period and the normal steps of healing will be explained to you at the time of your private consultation.
